Participating students must enroll at least one (1) of the HyFlex courses offered (encouraged to enroll in both) during summer 2027 Mid-session (06/14 - 07/23/2027).

• Students will travel to Puerto Rico from July 12 - 24, 2027 for the final 2 weeks of the session. 

ENGL C1001: Critical Thinking & Writing (4.0 units)

Prerequisite: ENGLC1000/ENGL1000E/C-ID ENGL 100 or equivalent

Course Description: In this course, students receive instruction in critical thinking for purposes of constructing, evaluating, and composing arguments in a variety of rhetorical forms, using primarily non-fiction texts, refining writing skills and research strategies developed in ENGL C1000: College Reading and Writing or similar first-year college writing course. This particular course will examine historical and social parallels between Puerto Rico and the United States, with particular attention to social movements and the literature produced by writers addressing related past and present social issues. 

JAMS 100: Mass Communications & Society (3.0 units)

Course Description: This course examines the impact of mass media in national and international political, economic, cultural and behavioral contexts. It assesses contemporary trends in media-society relations; historical facts that have shaped the structures, practices and products of the mass media industries and trends in media-society relations.

Any Cerritos College student that meets the requirements below can apply to participate in Study Abroad programs:

• provides unofficial copies of transcripts, showing minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
• completion of English C1000 with a "C" or better, or "Pass" for ENGL C1001 
• 18 years of age or older
• must enroll in one of the program offered courses

Student who are currently attending other colleges or universities may also participate in the Cerritos College study abroad program. They must apply to Cerritos College and enroll in summer courses, including one of the program offered courses 

Program Cost: $2,600**

Paying fees:

• Study abroad program fees:  paid to Cerritos College, instructions will be sent to program participants only.
• Fees for enrollment in Cerritos College classes: students pay directly to Cerritos College via MyCerritos.
• Passport and other fees for travel: students pay to source provider

**A minimum of 20 students must apply and pay fees in full for this program to be able to run. This program also has a capacity of 30 participants maximum.

The Program cost does NOT include flights, personal expenses, or meals.

• Accommodation: Double occupancy on-campus dormitory with shared kitchen
• Welcome & Farewell dinners
• Campus Wi-Fi access
• Pre-departure and In-Country Orientation
• Program staff support, including 24/7 emergency contact
• Transportation: One-time transportation from arrival airport, timed to meet the group flight on the scheduled arrival date
• Cultural Activities including walking tours, museums, cultural experiences, & a day trip to El Yunque National Rainforest
• Student medical insurance in the host country

• Round-trip airfare
• Passport or visa fees, if applicable
• Food or meals other than the planned program meals
• Personal expenses
• Fees for enrolling in Cerritos College classes (CCPG/BOG waivers apply)
• Textbooks or other class supplies
• World Trip Protector Insurance - to protect program fees in case of program cancellation or interruption.

This timeline is subject to change, applicants will be updated by email:

• Wednesday, February 26, 2027:  $600 non-refundable enrollment deposit
• Tuesday, March 16, 2027: $1,000 payment due
• Tuesday, April 6, 2027: $1,000 final payment due
• Monday, May 24, 2027: Payment to Cerritos College for enrollment in class(es) in the study abroad program

Student withdraws on or before February 26:

All fees paid may be reimbursed

Student withdraws after February 26 but before March 16, 2027:

All fees paid may be reimbursed, less the $600 non-refundable deposit

After March 16, but before April 13, 2027:

Up to 50% of fees paid may be reimbursed, less the $500 non-refundable deposit

April 13, 2027 or after: 

No refund, and the total program fee is due.

Once the program has begun:

No refund. Should Cerritos College or PROVIDER cancel the program prior to departure for reasons within its control, students will receive a full refund, less the $600 non-refundable deposit. Should PROVIDER cancel a program after May 14, 2027 (including once the program has started) for reasons beyond its control including but not limited to Acts of God, government actions (including those restricting travel), pandemics, fire, flood, explosion, earthquake, or other natural forces, war, civil unrest, accident, any strike or labor disturbance, or any other event similar to those enumerated above (a “Force Majeure Event”) students will receive no refund except for recoverable costs.**

Additional Worldwide Trip Protector Insurance: 

Participants are encouraged to purchase the Additional Worldwide Trip Protector insurance to cover Program Fees in case of interruption or cancellation due to medical reasons.
