How to Apply for a Loan

  • You must have submitted a FAFSA to be eligible for a Stafford loan.
  • For subsidized Stafford loans, you must have financial need as determined by your school.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen.
  • You must be enrolled or plan to enroll at least half time (6 units).
  • You must be accepted for enrollment or attend a school that participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program.
  • You must not be in default on any education loan or owe a refund on an education grant.

Submit office forms to financial aid office You will receive a Missing Information Letter (MIL)
Wait for Award Letter The financial aid office will mail it out.

Loan representative will now complete your loan request. You may check yourMy Cerritos logo account for award information.  It will be posted 30 days after you complete your application.

You will NOT receive your Spring loan check if you do not complete this session.

If you are interested in a unsubsidized loan complete the loan appeal.

In reviewing a request for any loan, the Financial Aid Advisor Committee may use "Professional Judgment" to deny a student loan on a case-by-case basis. If denied a loan, a student will receive a letter from the Financial Aid Office indicating the reason for the loan denial.
