Chafee Grant

The California Chafee Grant Program gives money to current or former foster youth to use for career and technical training or college courses. 

Chafee Grant 5000 dollars per year, take 6 units to qualify

To apply, you must submit both applications:

  1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 
    OR
    Dream Act application
     for undocumented students meeting AB 540

  2. California Chafee Grant Program Application

To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a current or former foster youth who was a ward of the court, living in foster care, for at least one day between the ages of 16 and 18. 

  • Have not reached your 26th birthday as of July 1 of the award year.

  • Enrolled into at least 6 units in an eligible program (undergraduate degree or certificate)

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) - get good grades.

  • Have not participated in the program for more than 5 years (whether or not consecutive).
