Online Lab: Gases

In this online lab you will go to a website and run an experiment.  You will manipulate variables, collect data in a spreadsheet and produce a graph of your findings.

Gas

This is a website that allows you to manipulate the temperature, volume and number of molecules of a gas.  You can see how this affects the volume of the gas.

In the first experiment, keep the pressure and number of molecules constant.  Adjust the temperature.  Record the temperature in one column of a spreadsheet, record the volume that the gas changes to in another column.  Repeat this for at least 10 total temperatures and volumes.  Create a ÔøΩscatter plotÔøΩ graph in excel.  Then add a ÔøΩtrendlineÔøΩ .  Make sure your axes are labeled and you write the units.  Title your graph.

In another experiment, keep the temperature and number of molecules constant.  Change the pressure. Record the pressure in one column of the spreadsheet and the volume in another.  You may have to wait while the volume stabilizes.  Repeat this for at least 10 pressures and volumes. Create a ÔøΩscatter plotÔøΩ graph in excel.  Then add a ÔøΩtrendlineÔøΩ .  Make sure your axes are labeled and you write the units.  Title your graph.

In another experiment, keep the temperature and pressure constant.  Change the number of molecules. Record the number in one column of the spreadsheet and the volume in another.  You may have to wait while the volume stabilizes.  Repeat this for at least 10 numbers of molecules and volumes. Create a ÔøΩscatter plotÔøΩ graph in excel.  Then add a ÔøΩtrend lineÔøΩ .  Make sure your axes are labeled and you write the units.  Title your graph.

Answer the questions below, turn in the typed answers to these questions, the spreadsheet, and 3 graphs to your instructor by the due date.
