College celebrates 2026-27 Convocation with Game of Life Theme
Cerritos College hosted the 2026-27 Convocation, themed “The Game of Life,” on August
27. President Jose Fierro served as a game show host, introducing speakers who posed
as game contestants. The event celebrated the college’s accomplishments, ongoing legislative
efforts, and its positive impact on the local economy.
Dr. Fierro addressed the audience with ambitious goals for the future. He announced plans to increase dual enrollment and the number of degrees awarded, aiming for 20,000 FTES students. He also spotlighted pivotal legislative initiatives, such as Assembly Bill 1636, designed to streamline college enrollment for high school students.
Employee speakers Carlos Serna, Jamie Quiroz, Ayman Mendoza, Jeannette Diaz, and Brian Hill shared their journeys and challenges, and the importance of meeting students where they are.
Dr. Fierro also highlighted the college’s significant impact on the local economy. Cerritos College contributes $685.9 million to the local economy each year, and one out of every 35 jobs in the community is influenced by the college. The college generates a return of $14.50 for every dollar invested in its students. He encouraged reflection on the college’s impact and the stories shared during the event, underscoring the importance of community and support for the college’s initiatives.
