Dr. Jose Fierro


If you are a returning student, I hope you are moving toward the completion of your educational goals. If you are new to our college, I wish you luck and encourage you to take advantage of the services available on campus to help you succeed.

As you can tell by the construction fences, we are building and renovating our facilities to provide you with the best learning environment possible. Student success is our highest priority and the faculty, staff, and administrators are here to provide you with a rigorous curriculum and student support services. I urge you to visit the Success Centers in the Learning Resource Center to take advantage of our expanded services.

Now more than ever, it is essential to obtain an advanced degree and/or certificate to improve your potential for higher earnings, job security, and career advancement.

About President Jose Fierro

Dr. Jose Fierro began his tenure as President/Superintendent of the Cerritos Community College District in July 2015. Through Dr. Fierro’s initiatives and commitment to increasing educational access, providing basic needs, and supporting personal and professional advancement, Cerritos College has become the launchpad for social mobility in the Southeast Los Angeles area. 

The College continually observes record-breaking graduation rates, a decrease in students’ time to completion, and an increase in successful completion of transfer math and English courses. Dr. Fierro launched Cerritos Complete, which won the 2018 Examples of Excelencia Award and was named a finalist in the 2018 Bellwether Award. 

Native of Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. Jose Fierro grew up in Bogota, Colombia and is an avid athlete. Dr. Fierro is always looking for more opportunities to stay active and engaged with students, including joining in training programs for marathon events with student veterans and other student groups on campus.

Dr. Fierro currently serves as the President of the National Community College Hispanic Council, President of the California Association of Latino Community College Trustees and Administrators, Immediate Past President of the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges, Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Regional Consortium, Member of the Community College League of California Board of Directors, and Member of the Coast Plaza Hospital Board of Directors.
