Statement on the Assault of Transwomen in Hollywood

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 19, 2020

Media Contact: Miya Walker; Public Affairs

We strongly condemn the brutal assault of three transwomen that occurred in Hollywood. One of the attackers, identified as Carlton Calloway, is a former Cerritos College student from 2011-2013. He is not a current student. This vicious behavior does not represent our value for humanity, equity, diversity, and equal protection for all people. Our hearts go out to these transwomen who deserve to exist without harassment or violence against them. These horrific acts of violence and hate toward the LGBTQIA+ community are the reasons we have been committed to educating our students and employees about gender diversity, authentic allyship, and creating cultures of respect. We encourage anyone in need of support to contact the closest LGBTQIA+ Center (Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange County), the Trans Wellness Center, or our campus LGBTQIA+ Safe Zone website.
