College secures $1.3 million federal grant to advance student success 

Cerritos College has once again earned national recognition for its leadership in expanding opportunities and advancing student success. The U.S. Department of Education awarded the college a $1.3 million federal TRIO grant to strengthen support for first-generation and low-income students. The five-year grant will fund the Cerritos College branch of the TRIO Student Support Services Project, a national initiative aimed at helping students stay in school, graduate, and build successful careers... Dr. Jose Fierro inspires students at Student Convocation with message on commitment and success

The college held its annual Student Convocation on October 15. President and Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro addressed the students present about the importance of commitment and consistency in academic performance, emphasizing social proof and the desire to emulate successful peers. He connected these psychological ideas to strategies, encouraging students to maximize their investment in education by highlighting the financial advantages of graduating on time, the transferability of skills across different careers, and the importance of acting early to improve long-term success.

Latinas in Business panelists

Latinas in Business Panel celebrates entrepreneurial successes during Latinx Heritage Month

The Chicano Studies Department and the Business Administration Department hosted a panel and showcase titled "Latinas in Business" on October 15, in celebration of Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month. The panelists included Gabriela Alvarez, owner of GabulousLA; Vanessa Guerrero, who started her carnicería in April; and Minerva and Monica Alvarez, owners of Shelsye's Bridal. The discussion, moderated by Chicano Studies Instructor Caroline Romero, focused on the intersection of identity and entrepreneurship, highlighting the unique challenges and successes faced by Latina entrepreneurs when starting a business.

Join the Dia de Muertos celebration on November 7

Join us for Cerritos College’s 70th Anniversary Día de los Muertos Celebration, Noche con la Familia, an evening to honor loved ones and celebrate life and culture. Enjoy a vibrant night of community featuring student and community-created ofrendas (altars), a live DJ, performances, face painting, local food vendors, and a screening of Disney’s Coco hosted by Mecha. Our Advanced Transportation and Logistics (ATL) Center secured $3.5 million for clean vehicle training at 28 high schools, benefiting 1,800 students and training 36 educators each year.
