College to Host 2nd Economic Development Summit on March 6

WHAT: Cerritos College will host its second Economic Development Summit on March 6. Industry leaders, businesses, organizations, and educators from across the Gateway-area region will reconvene for a one-day conference to forecast economic trends and identify solutions to meet the area's workforce and labor demands. The College hosted its first Economic Development Summit in 2017.

Special guest speakers include Jessica Ku Kim, Senior Director of Workforce Development, with the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, who will address the role community colleges play in building a competitive workforce. Erin Baird, Account Manager, Higher Education, and Sterling Smith, Consulting Economist with Emsi, will lead the discussion related to workforce demand and alignment.

“It is critical that Cerritos College stay active in facilitating a strong environment for economic development, workforce training, and community building across the region so that our students can benefit from programs and resources on campus that are closely aligned with industry trends,” said Cerritos College President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro. “When education and training are easy to access throughout our community, residents and students have a better chance to improve their social mobility into the middle class and change the trajectory of their lives and that of their family.”
