Meet Alumnus Joseph R. Garza

At age 32, Joseph R. Garza wanted a change in careers from IT to woodworking, and enrolled in the woodworking program at Cerritos College in 2015. He received an A.A. in furniture making and a CNC operations certificate in 2018. Joseph advises taking as many classes as possible with different instructors, as instructors have their specialties. Joseph recommends checking the job board in the Woodworking Department. “The program is well known and respected in the woodworking community. When employers knew I was coming from Cerritos College, it was easier to land a job,” said Joseph. Today, Joseph works for Miller Woodworking in Harbor City, where he creates furniture. “It is never too late to start school and have a career change,” said Joseph.
