Purchasing Staff Demonstrate Procurement Excellence

Mark Logan and Ramona MellgozaPurchasing Buyer II Ramona Mellgoza and Director Mark B. Logan earned the Certified Procurement Professional (CPP) designation from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), also known as the NIGP-CPP professional certification.

Ramona and Mark are the first within the California community college system to attain this accomplishment. There are currently 551 individuals in North America who hold the certification in public procurement.

The NIGP-CPP certification offers unique attributes when compared to other procurement-related professional certifications. It is the only certification that is anchored in the Public Procurement Competency Framework (PPCF). The framework is also rooted in research produced by the Volcker Alliance that seeks effective public service through workforce competences.

NIGP NIGP-CPP Certified Procurement ProfessionalCandidates for the NIGP-CPP must demonstrate that they meet certain required educational attainment, work experience in public procurement, followed by the passing of a competency-based exam that focuses on knowledge, skills, and performance. The comprehensive, competency-based exam is based upon 43 competency statements within seven areas of focus from the PPCF.

Lopez, Vice President of Business Services/Assistant Superintendent. “These certifications represent their dedication to student success and continued efforts to meet the procurement needs of our campus community,” Lopez said.

Ramona also holds the Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) designation from the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC). Mark holds the Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) and CPPB designations from UPPCC, and the Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) and Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.) designations from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).
