Dr. Jose Fierro Elected Board President of the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) Board
President Fierro becomes the CEOs’ CEO
At its June Board meeting, the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges (CEOCCC) Board elected Dr. Jose Fierro as the 2022-23 Board President. Dr. Fierro will serve a three-year term through 2026. He will lead the 15-member board that includes chancellors, superintendent/presidents, and presidents of 116 colleges and districts across the California community college system. Members are elected by the CEOs in specific regions.
"I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this visionary CEOCCC Board this coming year. As new and stubborn challenges arise, the Board will be laser-focused on fresh ideas to innovate old modalities that have historically limited student access and equity. Our ultimate goal is to identify strategies that lift our students and their families out of poverty and into the middle class, especially during this time of economic uncertainty. By investing in more resources and implementing strategic policies, the CEOCCC Board can help our districts to adopt more holistic support models that remove barriers so our students can thrive. I’m excited to work with my colleagues to advance our mission of student success," said Dr. Jose Fierro, President/Superintendent of Cerritos College.
The CEOCCC Board takes positions on education policy issues that come before the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and the California State Legislature. CEOCCC Board members represent their colleagues by region or at large and fulfill the important responsibility of analyzing and making recommendations on legislation and the state budget.
