Meet Student Trustee Hector Ledesma

Hector LedesmaMeet Hector Ledesma, the 2022-23 Cerritos College student trustee. As a first-generation college student, navigating college seemed challenging to him when he enrolled at Cerritos College. However, after connecting with a counselor, Hector developed an educational plan that fit his goals and streamlined his journey. “In addition, my involvement with on-campus clubs and the Associated Students of Cerritos College (ASCC) gave me a sense of belonging and helped me develop professional and leadership skills that I can apply in the real world. I also discovered that our club advisors are some of the best mentors,” he said. Hector has served as the Geography Club leader and ASCC director of sustainability prior to his current role. His goal as student trustee is to be resourceful and advocate for students in a meaningful way.

The environmental engineering major has a passion for the environment. He was among the group of students who brought the Break Free From Plastic resolution to the Board in 2021, making the campus the first community college in California to adopt a policy to abandon the use of plastic products. Hector plans to transfer in 2023 to earn a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering and to restore destroyed ecosystems and develop solutions to environmental issues as an environmental engineer.

Students can contact Hector by stopping by the Student Activities Office in the Auto Partners Building or emailing him at hledesma@cerritos.edu.
