Press-Telegram Readers Select Cerritos College’s Cosmetology Program as Best Choice

Cosmetology studentsLong Beach Press-Telegram readers voted Cerritos College’s cosmetology program the best choice for its annual Reader's Choice award. The Long Beach Press-Telegram and Grunion Gazette host the Reader’s Choice contest each year, inviting its 64,000 readers to vote for their favorite businesses and organizations. This marks the College’s first Best Reader’s Choice Award.

The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program offers two pathways: cosmetology and esthetician to prepare students for a career in the beauty industry. In the cosmetology program, students will learn how to perform haircuts, hairstyles, hair extensions, chemical services (color, perms relaxers, balayage, and lighteners), makeup, eyelash extensions, lash lifts and brow lamination, nail services (manicure, gels, and acrylics), sanitation and infection control, and how to start a business.

The esthetician program offers hands-on classes that teach students how to perform a facial, the different types of facial massage, massage techniques, skin analysis, electrical modalities, microdermabrasion, chemical exfoliants, and waxing and hair removal procedures. Students also learn skin, histology, physiology, chemistry, bacteriology, nutrition, and anatomy theories.

Ranked second among the 2022 best cosmetology schools in California by Best-Universities.net, the program boasts an on-campus salon where students offer cosmetology services in a real salon environment. The salon is currently closed due to the renovation of its building and is expected to reopen to the public in 2024. The renovation will improve the student learning environment and provide faculty with a modern academic teaching space. The District is also investing additional resources to enhance student educational experiences to meet industry demands.

Many program graduates work as hair stylists, makeup artists, estheticians, nail technicians, platform artists, educators, celebrity stylists, salon/spa owners, and product developers.
