As part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Vehicle Technologies Office, Clean Cities coalitions foster affordable, efficient, and clean transportation fuels, technologies, and practices in local communities nationwide. Cerritos College hosts the Long Beach Clean Cities coalition, promoting alternative and renewable energies while developing an employment pipeline for students interested in clean fuel careers.

Malig joined Cerritos College as director of the Advanced Transportation Technology & Renewable (ATTR) Center at Cerritos College in 2009. She served as the deputy sector navigator for the Los Angeles and Orange County regions from 2012-17. Since 2018, Malig has led the state as California’s sector navigator for Advanced Transportation and Logistics.

Malig was instrumental in obtaining a $1 million workforce development grant for electric school bus education to develop a curriculum and train nine college faculty members, who then trained 97 electric school bus technicians statewide. She also helped the college secure a California Energy Commission zero-emission vehicle grant of $3.5 million, resulting in 52 California high schools developing zero-emission vehicle career technology programs that have enrolled 5,353 students.

In addition, Malig serves as chair of the Mobilize Summit for collaboration on future technology and its impact on business and the workforce, director of government relations for People of Color in Green Spaces, and chair of the California Transit Training Consortium, a non-profit group that addresses workforce needs in the transit world, including tribal lands.

“Jannet has impacted the lives of thousands of middle school, high school, and college students and professional technicians through her focus on workforce development,” said Brett Aristegui of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, regional manager of Clean Cities coalitions in California.

“We are proud of Jannet’s accomplishments in creating relevant career pathways and developing a solid workforce for green technology fields,” echoed Dr. Jose Fierro, president/superintendent of Cerritos College. “Jannet is dedicated to promoting alternative and renewable fuels and preparing workers for skilled jobs that will drive California’s economic growth and foster sustainability.”
