PAINTING AFFECT
Presenting works by David Burch, Calvin Ross Carl, Craig Drennen, and Hannah Karsen

Description: The romantic notion of the painter excites in our thoughts the importance of the gesture, the subtlety of a blended color, shifting marks, anguished looking, the undoubtedly subjective. Burch, Carl, Drennen and Karsen run amongst these painterly tropes, relying on them to capture our interest in the moment of the mark, highlighting our presence with the work and in time.

Location: FA64

Participating Artists: David Burch, Calvin Ross Carl, Craig Drennen, and Hannah Karsen

David Burch is a visual artist living and working in Los Angeles, CA.  He received his BFA from California State University Fullerton in 2010 and  his MFA from the University of California-Riverside in 2016. His work investigates intersections and hybridizations of various artistic and cultural polarities such as; Modernist and Baroque interiors, decoration and functionality, excess and necessity, irony and sincerity.  More specifically the work has become increasingly focused on exploring the nature of the art object as one of frivolous excess, and simultaneously, as one of spiritual and cultural significance.
