BOLT FROM THE BLUE

Description: Bolt from the Blue is inspired by the ephemeral nature of this event. It is the building’s last spark of life before it is demolished and a new life begins. This show only exists in a moment. It is a bolt from the blue. Each artist takes a unique approach to this concept and opens up room for discussion and various interpretations.

Dakota Noot is an artist originally from North Dakota. He received a BFA in Drawing from the University of North Dakota. His paintings and drawings exist in a queer space: between man and woman, human and animal, conservative and liberal. CGU ’17.

Jenni Simms is an artist based in San Diego. Her work focuses on the organic as she seeks to elevate the mysterious nature of the nonspecific.

Adrienne DeVine is a Southern California native who lives and works in Pasadena, California. She has a BA from California State University, Long Beach and will receive her MFA from Claremont Graduate University in May 2017.  She uses a variety of media to investigate social, cultural and economic capital as it is embodied, objectified and institutionalized in contemporary society.

Chien Tai ,1990 Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. B.F.A. from Taipei National University of the Arts, Taiwain, 2013.

Chelsea Boxwell, originally from Houston, Texas, she received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas, in Denton, TX in 2013. She is now living in Claremont, California and working towards an MFA from Claremont Graduate University.

Benjamin Zhao. born in China 1983, A Painter and installation artist. He focuses on the themes related to condition of the current society and people, the existence of individual, the beauty of daily life.

Dixie Boswell is a native of the deep south and citizen of the world.  She earned a BFA in painting/drawing and a minor in art history from Mississippi State University and will complete her MFA in studio art from Claremont Graduate University in May 2017.

Adrienne Cole A former New Yorker, Adrienne Cole works as a painter and installation artist now in Los Angeles, California. Fascinated with color, textiles, sound and video, she looks to entice, amuse, confuse and surprise viewers through grids, abstract patterns and quirky narratives.

Denisse Leung Liu is an artist based in Los Angeles, California. She was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. At the age of 18, she moved to the United States to pursue her passion and graduated from the University of La Verne in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography and a minor in Internet Programming. She is currently in the MFA program at Claremont Graduate University.


Tommy Burns Los Angeles transplant living in Boyle Heights, Tommy Canales Burns is originally from Texas. He received a BA from Pitzer College in Media Studies. His work deals with culture clashes and the individual, collective consciousness, subcultures, subconscious choices, etc. and how these shape reality. He is interested in how they subvert the paradigm, transform, aspire, and transcend it. He just paints on stuff.

Rachel Carson was born in Escondido, California. She received her B.F.A at Colorado Mesa University and is currently pursuing a M.F.A at Claremont Graduate University. Her paintings range from figurative narratives to multilayered paint pours.

Diana Campuzano is an artist working in Pasadena, California. She received her BFA from New Mexico State University and is currently pursuing a MFA at Claremont Graduate University. She primarily works in ceramics to create large scale pieces that engage ideas of fugitive beauty and interpretations of the natural world.

Bee Wilki is a recent CGU MFA graduate living and working outside of Los Angeles. He attended CSUSB for his undergraduate degree. He has worked in a wide breadth of media and creates work that strives to find beauty in the imperfect and entropic. He recently accepted a position teaching at Chaffey College.

Zhaoyang Zheng Born in Shanghai, China. A Photographer and installation artist. BA in broadcast director from Shanghai Theater Academy. Came to California for MFA program in 2015 at Claremont Graduate University.

Lara Salmon is a Los Angeles based artist who works primarily in performance. She has a BFA from UC Berkeley and studied art in Beirut, Lebanon before coming to Claremont Graduate University to pursue her MFA. Lara’s work calls on her own vulnerability to test physical possibility. The materials she uses, including herself, revolve around biology and cultural connotation.
