Retiree Ruben Leon recognized
The Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized Ruben Leon, Mathematics Professor,
for his 35 years of service to the college on July 15. Ruben joined Cerritos College
in 1990, following his graduate studies at Cal State Long Beach. Over the years, he
served as co-chair of the Mathematics Department, where he played a key role in developing
and revising our curriculum from trigonometry through differential equations and linear
algebra.
His contributions to the curriculum committee and faculty senate helped ensure academic rigor across the college’s offerings. Ruben has also been a steady presence for our most advanced students, and he's contributed creative problems to both Math Field Day and Math Club Integration B over the years. Our graduates consistently point to him as someone who helped them succeed, and who had a real gift for making complex material accessible. That same gift extended to mentoring new faculty in Calculus III, linear algebra, and differential equations.
