Students and Dr. Fierro at Convocation

Students explore education’s payoff at "Game of Life" Convocation

Cerritos College held its 2026–27 Student Convocation on October 14 with the theme “Game of Life.” President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro emphasized that education is an investment in students’ financial security and career opportunities. Drawing a parallel to the game, he described life as a journey shaped by choices and stages. Each hour spent in class is an hour students could otherwise spend working and earning money. By pursuing an education, they are investing that time in the knowledge, skills, and credentials that can strengthen their earning potential and open doors to future opportunities.

Campus community prepares for earthquakes during annual ShakeOut drill

At 10:15 a.m., students, faculty, and staff practiced Drop, Cover, and Hold On and then evacuated to designated areas. The drill simulated the steps to reduce potential injury and death in the event of a real earthquake. Minutes before the drill, participants received safety information via text messages through the campus emergency notification system. The college has participated since 2011.
