NORWALK, Calif. - August 30, 2022 – Cerritos College is ranked second among the 2022 best cosmetology schools in California by Best-Universities.net.

According to Digital Journal, Best Universities collected college data sourced from the U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics survey and ranked the best cosmetology schools in California based on: an average annual cost of no more than $15,000, a median starting salary of no lower than $30,000, and accredited programs by recognized bodies.

The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program offers two pathways: cosmetology and esthetician to prepare students for a career in the beauty industry. In the cosmetology program, students will learn how to perform haircuts, hairstyles, hair extensions, chemical services (color, perms relaxers, balayage, and lighteners), makeup, eyelash extensions, lash lifts and brow lamination, nail services (manicure, gels, and acrylics), sanitation and infection control, and how to start a business.

The esthetician program offers hands-on classes that teach students how to perform a facial, the different types of facial massage, massage techniques, skin analysis, electrical modalities, microdermabrasion, chemical exfoliants, and waxing and hair removal procedures. Students also learn skin, histology, physiology, chemistry, bacteriology, nutrition, and anatomy theories.

The program boasts an on-campus salon where students offer cosmetology services in a real salon environment. The salon is currently closed due to the renovation of its building and is expected to reopen to the public in 2024.

Many program graduates work as hair stylists, makeup artists, estheticians, nail technicians, platform artists, educators, celebrity stylists, salon/spa owners, and product developers.

Currently, the cosmetology program is under revision. The curriculum is being updated with changes required by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. The program is expected to resume in spring 2023. Please visit www.cerritos.edu/cosmetology for updates. The esthetician program is open.
