Cerritos College celebrates new citizens through campus collaboration

Elvia and Sarahi (l-r)A new partnership between the Cerritos College Foundation and the Continuing Education Division helped Sarahi de García García and Elvia Yanet Cervantes Guzman receive financial assistance to cover the expenses of pursuing U.S. citizenship.

“Es un orgullo; no me esperaba este apoyo que me iban a brindar. Obtener mi ciudadanía me abre muchas puertas a nivel laboral y me da el derecho al voto. (It is an honor, I did not expect to receive this kind of support. Obtaining my citizenship opens many doors for me in terms of employment opportunities and gives me the right to vote.),” said Sarahi.

Elvia echoed, "Es un paso más para abrirme puertas en este país y poder seguir estudiando y progresando. Al hacerme ciudadana, tendré voz y voto en este país. (It is another step toward opening doors for me in this country so that I can continue studying and making progress. By becoming a citizen, I will have a voice and a vote in this country.)”

Cerritos College is proud to celebrate Sarahi and Elvia’s achievements and the many ways it supports residents in their journey toward new opportunities and civic engagement.

The Continuing Education Division provides free citizenship classes to help residents prepare for the U.S. naturalization test and interview. For more details, call 562-467-5098.
