Cerritos College celebrates new citizens through campus collaboration
A new partnership between the Cerritos College Foundation and the Continuing Education Division helped Sarahi de García García and Elvia Yanet Cervantes Guzman receive financial assistance to cover the expenses of pursuing U.S. citizenship. The college continues to empower residents on their journey toward new opportunities and civic engagement. College welcomes nine new members to Psi Beta national honor society for psychology
The Cerritos College Chapter of Psi Beta inducted nine students into the Psi Beta national honor society in Psychology for community colleges. Memberships are based on scholarship, leadership, community service, and research. The club held an induction ceremony on October 23 for inductees Harel Dious, Maria Nunez, Kandice Carrera, Bryan Requeno, Belle Vang, Ma. Dr. Graciela Vasquez highlights empowerment of Latina students in community colleges at HACU Conference
Dr. Graciela Vasquez, dean of Continuing Education, presented her dissertation findings on Latinas in California community colleges at the annual conference of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) on November 3. In her presentation titled “Latina Community College Students Claiming Agency Through Education to Redefine Life Trajectories,” Graciela introduced an innovative college pathway developed by Latina immigrant mothers in noncredit ESL programs. Her study highlighted the challenges faced by Latinas and how they actively shape their educational and life trajectories.

Transfer Conference inspires students on their journey to dream schools
The Transfer Center hosted the annual Transfer Conference on November 7, a day dedicated to empowering students in their journey to transfer to their dream schools. The event showcased alumni and university panels, engaging workshops, and application assistance sessions, culminating in a lively university fair and a complimentary lunch.

Campus celebrates First Gen College Student Week
The campus celebrated students who are the first in their families to attend college during First Gen College Student Week from November 3-7. With over half of the student population at Cerritos College being first-time college students, the events highlighted the unique challenges these students face as well as their remarkable achievements. The kick-off event featured activities to thank mentors, friends, and family members who have supported students on their college journey. Hosted by Career Services, the week-long festivities included a speed interviewing workshop, an employer panel, and a session designed to help students confront imposter syndrome.
