Veterans Day ceremony celebrates unity and resilience

Color Guard raising flagThe campus observed Veterans Day with the annual flag-raising ceremony on November 12. Dean of Student Equity and Success Lui Amador, a Marine Corps veteran, emphasized the significance of morning and evening colors, the flag's resilience during the bombardment of Fort McHenry, and its symbolism during the Apollo 11 moon landing. President and Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro highlighted the importance of unity and gratitude toward veterans. He encouraged living with purpose, kindness, and respect for one another as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Victor Shen, a Falcon alumnus who attended Cerritos College before joining the United States Military Academy at West Point, discussed the evolution of Veterans Day and the positive impact veterans have on society. Shen encouraged the audience to learn the unique stories of veterans and appreciate their diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The Color Guard this year was Jocelyn Sanchez, Alyssa Corolla, and Abigail Salazar, led by Master Sergeant Schaefer from Southeast Academy High School.
