Dia de los Muertos event celebrates life and culture
Campus came alive on November 7 with the vibrant Día de los Muertos Noche con la Familia celebration. It was an unforgettable evening filled with vibrant culture and community spirit as students, local residents, and campus departments came together to honor loved ones and celebrate life. The event featured stunning ofrendas (altars) created by students and community members, showcasing creativity and love, a live DJ spinning great tunes, performances, festive face painting, delicious bites from local food vendors, and a special screening of Disney’s beloved Coco. Veterans Day flag-raising ceremony celebrates unity and resilience
The campus observed Veterans Day with the annual flag-raising ceremony on November 12. Dean of Student Equity and Success Lui Amador, a Marine Corps veteran, emphasized the significance of morning and evening colors, the flag's resilience during the bombardment of Fort McHenry, and its symbolism during the Apollo 11 moon landing. President and Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro highlighted the importance of unity and gratitude toward veterans. Accounting Instructor Charles Osaki among top 100 accountants in L.A.
Accounting instructor Charles Osaki was honored as one of L.A.’s top 100 accountants by the Los Angeles Business Journal on November 6. The annual awards recognize the top accounting professionals in the Los Angeles region for their ongoing efforts as outstanding financial stewards. Charles is a CPA with 40+ years of experience and has taught accounting at Cerritos College since 2019. He is active in the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA), having held various positions, including chair of the Accounting Education State Committee and president of the Board of Trustees, Council, and Nominations Committee during his 24-year membership.
