Computer Science student Anamika Bawa leads team to victory at LA Tech Rising Internship Demo Day
Computer Science major Anamika Bawa recently led her team to a first-place win at
the Fall 2025 LA Tech Rising Internship IT/Cybersecurity & Software Engineering Demo
Day. Anamika participated in the LA Tech Rising Internship, a paid program designed
for young talent aged 18 to 24 to explore the tech industry while learning from experienced
professionals. During the program, interns participate in interactive workshops that
focus on essential skills, including technical expertise, effective communication,
and personal branding (self-marketing) strategies, all aimed at helping participants
stand out in the industry.
Anamika’s team created the “Waymo edge case analysis system” using the Waymo open data set to identify and classify rare edge cases in autonomous vehicle routes. The tool aims to speed up the detection of these moments for quicker improvements in autonomous systems. She was selected to advance to the Waymo AV Experience as the project leader.
“Working on this project exposed me to languages and platforms I had never used before. It was overwhelming at first, but once I understood it, it was very rewarding," said Anamika. “Working with a team virtually and collaborating through platforms like Git was all new to me. I also got to test my interpersonal communication skills during the internship."
