Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the Humanities and Social Sciences Division at Cerritos College!
I'm Dr. Rakin, and it's my privilege to serve as Dean of a Division that captures the full breadth of the human experience. Across our 15 academic departments, you'll find pathways into history, political science, ethnic studies, psychology, administrative justice, sociology, anthropology women and gender studies, education technology, philosophy, and so much more — disciplines that ask the questions every generation must answer for itself: Who are we? How did we get here? Where are we going? How do we live together? What do we owe to one another?
Each year, more than 7,500 students join us in this pursuit, choosing from over 1,560 course sections offered across the fall, spring, and summer terms. Whatever your goal: an Associate of Arts degree, a specialized certificate, a smooth transfer to a four-year university, or career-focused training, our faculty are here to guide you there. Behind every one of those course sections stands a dedicated team: 11 faculty chairpersons providing seasoned leadership, staff members that keep our operations running smoothly, and interns bringing fresh energy and new perspectives to our work.
The humanities and social sciences have never mattered more. In a world that moves fast and changes faster, the ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and understand people and cultures different from your own isn't just an academic exercise.
