Briana LeviMeet alumna Briana Levi. A native of Long Beach, Briana enrolled at Cerritos College after graduating from Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School. At Cerritos College, she met counselors Dr. Shelia Hill and Dr. Chelena Fisher, who introduced her to the Umoja Success Program. Umoja prepares students, especially African American and first-generation college students, for success beyond Cerritos College through an enriching cultural and educational experience.

Briana was determined to transfer to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). With the help of Dr. Hill and Dr. Fisher, she transferred to one of the top HBCUs in the nation Clark-Atlanta University in 2018 and completed her bachelor’s degree in history in 2020. Briana went on to pursue her master’s degree in social work at Clark-Atlanta to work with at-risk minority youth and adolescents and help them better their lives.

Upon earning her master’s this summer, Briana returned to California and began working as a student success coach for the California Community Colleges to Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program. She assists students who transfer from a California community college to partnering HBCUs with continuing their education. Briana also started her non-profit organization called Beginning New Journeys, which assists families and children facing homelessness. Her goal is to grow her organization and help at-risk youth overcome obstacles and become successful in their life.
