2022-23 Convocation Sheds Light on Pathways for Student Success

Convocation student groupCerritos College kicked off the 2022-23 academic year with the Convocation on September 1. Attended by more than 200 faculty and staff members, the Convocation celebrated the campus re-opening this semester showcasing the brand-new Performing Arts Center. The Commercial Music Ensemble provided entertainment.

Following the PAC open house hosted by the theatre and music departments, President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro shared his thoughts about how the campus community adapted to the challenges of serving students amidst the pandemic with innovations and his findings from his pandemic reading list about steering through the unpredictability of life.

Dr. Fierro then presented the significant improvement in student success and the record-breaking 5,167 degrees and certificates awarded in the 2021-22 academic year. He recognized the hard work of the faculty and staff behind the success and expected that the College continues to see exponential success as the campus innovates its student support programs including Guided Pathways.

Guided Pathways Coordinator Traci Ukita presented how Guided Pathways provides a clear path to a career of value and a supportive college experience so that students successfully achieve their academic goals on time. The Guided Pathways team created eight Learning and Career Pathways (LCPs), collections of majors that have related content or fit within similar career areas. Each LCP has a Success Team that helps students cross the finish line. Traci invited the campus community to incorporate the LCPs into campus conversations and promote its idea and benefits to students.
