Retiree Sheela Hoyle Recognized
Dr. Sheela Hoyle was hired as a full-time counselor at Cerritos College on July 1,
2000. Over the next twenty-two years of service, Dr. Hoyle showed great leadership
skills in various ways within the Counseling Division and across the campus. She was
one of the online counseling leads when the College introduced virtual counseling,
and led the efforts to create online counseling courses. She was also a part of various
campus committees and served as department chair for the Counseling Department. After
various years of serving as faculty, Dr. Hoyle decided to give the administration
world a try and served as the Interim Dean of Counseling in 2022.
As Interim Dean of Counseling, Dr. Hoyle helped the Counseling Division transition into the Learning and Career Pathways model. While ensuring that students weren’t negatively impacted and all services continued smoothly. She also helped to slowly bring counseling services back to in-person, while maintaining the online services and meeting students where they were. Her leadership was so notable that she was named the Outstanding Educational Manager of the Year in 2022.
Dr. Hoyle is described by both faculty and staff as caring, selfless, inspirational, and very fashionable! She will be missed by many in the counseling department.
