Retiree Lee Evans Recognized

Dr. Jose Fierro, Lee Evans, and Dr. Amber HrochIn 1988, Lee Evans began her career at Cerritos College as an adult hourly in Institutional Advancement, Research, and Development and gained full-time employment as a grant specialist two years later. Lee was named the Classified Employee of the Month of May 1991. Prior to Cerritos College, Lee spent nearly 20 years as a secretary in industrial manufacturing where she began working with subcontracts.

What inspired Lee to come to Cerritos College was the fact that no one in her family went to college, and she had always wanted to go to become a literature professor. Cerritos College has been more than a place of employment but a Falcon family. Lee attended Cerritos College as well as most of her family, which includes her two sets of identical twins in dental assisting, her son-in-law in business, and her grandchildren and friends. Colleagues describe Lee as caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable.

She works diligently to develop innovative grants to better serve our students. If you ask Lee what she loves most about her position, she will say working with instructors on new pathways and courses. She has truly enjoyed workforce development, which has allowed for more opportunities for students. In addition, she loves engaging with staff and faculty about the grant process and the creativity of developing new programs.

During her retirement, Lea plans to continue her annual travel with our next trip to Japan, study the French language, spend time with her grandchildren, and continue writing her novel. She's already published one on Amazon: In the School of Affliction: A History of the Life and Times of Daniel Defoe

Congratulations, Lee; thank you for your service, and best wishes in your retirement!
