College celebrates Chinese culture and learning with Lantern Festival

Lantern Festival participantsCerritos College hosted a Chinese Lantern Festival on March 5. The event featured an engaging lesson on the history of lanterns, storytelling, sampling of traditional Lantern Festival foods, and workshops on calligraphy, painting, and lantern-making.

During the festival, 21 students received a certificate for completing the college’s seven-week online Mandarin class for beginners, which was provided in partnership with the University of Taipei. The class is offered by the college’s community education department and serves as an introduction to Mandarin conversations. The next session will begin on March 19.

Additionally, attendees learned about the college’s Taiwan study abroad program, which will be offered this summer. The program includes a three-week cultural immersion experience at Providence University, located in Taichung City, Taiwan, featuring Mandarin language instruction and cultural excursions.
