Cerritos College recognized for leadership in sustainability; Procurement and Contract Services wins Green Award for two consecutive years
Cerritos College was honored with the Green Award at the 2024 Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC)/CollegeBuys Purchasing Conference, marking the second consecutive year the college has received this recognition.
Presented by Waxie Sanitary Supply, the award acknowledged Cerritos College’s dedication to sustainability. In 2023, it was the top California community college in eco-friendly product purchases.
“Cerritos College dedicated 81 percent of its total money spent with Waxie on green products, surpassing the average of 71 percent among all community college districts, the CSU and UC systems last year,” said Mark B. Logan, director of procurement and contract services.
In line with the college’s sustainability goals, the Facilities Department prioritizes procuring products with high recycled content, particularly for the cleaning and maintenance efforts of the custodial and maintenance crews.
“This award underscores the college’s commitment to environmental stewardship and our continuous efforts to be a better partner to the world. By focusing on eco-friendly cleaning and maintenance, we not only reduce our environmental footprint but also set a standard for sustainable practices within the educational sector,” said Anthony Parker, director of physical plant and construction services.
“We are honored to receive this recognition and remain steadfast in our mission to promote environmentally safe products and sustainable practices. This is just the beginning for Cerritos College, as we continue to seek innovative solutions to advance our sustainability goals in the future,” said Felipe Lopez, executive vice president of business services/assistant superintendent.
