Veterans Week celebrates service men and women
The Veteran’s Resource Center held a week-long celebration to honor military veterans
on November 4-6. The festivities began with the flag-raising ceremony on November
4. Retired Marine and Senior Technical Support Specialist Erik Duane spoke about the
history and significance of Veterans Day, emphasizing its origins as Armistice Day
and its evolution to honor all U.S. veterans.
Students learned how to make MREs and their taste on November 5. The celebration ended with the screening of the award-winning documentary Bring Them Home, which powerfully examines the difficult issue of deported veterans. Following the film, Hector Barajas, one of the deported veterans featured in it, answered questions from the audience.
