College redefines access and value at 2026 State of the College address

Cerritos College hosted its 2026 State of the College address on May 7, highlighting a commitment to removing systemic barriers and redefining the value of higher education through innovation, advocacy, and workforce partnerships. During the event, Board President Dr. Dawn Green and President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro emphasized that "access" is not merely getting students into a classroom but ensuring they "get in, get through, and get ahead." Ruben Orozco

Rising Engineer passionate about sustainability and community

Meet Ruben Orozco, a determined and aspiring engineer who grew up in La Mirada and has been carving his path at Cerritos College. Inspired by his parents, both of whom attended Cerritos College but didn’t complete their degrees, he felt a connection to the school from an early age.  Link to the Falcons in Flight story about Ruben. Ruben will be competing this weekend in the Red Bull Soapbox Race as a member of El Velozo!

Women’s Wrestling extends dynasty with fourth straight State Championship

The Cerritos College Women's Wrestling program has solidified its position as a leader in California community college athletics by winning its fourth consecutive 3C2A State Championship this past weekend at the state meet in Fresno. The Falcons earned 239 team points to secure the title, finishing ahead of Mt. San Antonio College, which placed second. Sacramento City College rounded out the top three. Congratulations to all! Robotics team building momentum at VEX U World Championship

The Cerritos College robotics students showcased their skills at the 2026 VEX U Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri, from April 25-27. Competing in the "Design" division against 120 teams, they demonstrated significant progress. A highlight was their 45-37 victory over Huazhong University of Science and Technology, one of China's top technology universities, a major achievement after last year's defeat to another international powerhouse... Festivities honor Asian Pacific Islander Desi American heritage

The campus celebrated Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Awareness Week from May 4-8. The week-long festivities included a luncheon, a film screening, presentations, discussions, and games. On May 4, Human Resources sponsored a luncheon featuring guest speaker Dr. Xiaoying Gan, a sociologist of religion and co-founder of the Aumzens Cultural Initiative. During her talk, she explored Himalayan art and its relationship with modern audiences. Dr. Gan discussed the varying perceptions of Buddhist art, its evolution influenced by Western thought, and its integration with local cultures.

Student Altayra Lucio featured by Vivela Magazine

International studies major Altayra Lucio was featured in the May issue of Vivela Magazine. Born in California, Altayra spent 13 years in Los Cabos, Mexico, where she received a bilingual education. Seeking opportunities beyond tourism, she moved back to California to further her education after completing her GED in three months. Altayra aspires to study civil law at a four-year university, such as UC Berkeley or Occidental College, after transferring. She is actively involved in campus volunteering and serves as a tutor while maintaining close relationships with her family, especially her mother.

MESA Program Manager Helen Barriere and Adjunct Counselor Louis Williams have been recognized among Cal State Long Beach's 49 Under 49. The 49 Under 49 program celebrates exceptional alumni under 49 who are making transformative contributions in their communities and beyond. Congratulations, Helen and Louis, and thank you for your commitment to helping our students thrive in education and beyond!

🏁 Cheer on El Velozo at the Red Bull Soapbox Race this Saturday!

Our very own Cerritos College students, Arelie Marquez, Ruben Orozco, Gabriel Ramirez, Hector Ramirez, and Andrew Solis, are taking over the streets of Los Angeles! Members of the PUENTE and MESA programs have teamed up to form El Velozo: Los Ingenieros, and they are ready to compete in the legendary 2026 Red Bull Soapbox Race. Come out and support our team as they put their engineering skills and bravery to the test in their custom-built racer on Saturday, May 16, 2026, approx. 12:15 p.m. in Downtown L.A. Can't make it to DTLA? Show your support by following their journey on Instagram @el_velozo25. Donations are also welcome to help the team reach the finish line!
