2021-22 Convocation Cooks up Secret Sauce for Student Success
Cerritos College kicked off the 2021-22 academic year with the Convocation on September
30. Attended by nearly 300 faculty and staff members via zoom, the Convocation was live
streamed from the brand-new Performing Arts Center celebrating the campus re-opening this
semester.
President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro, in chef’s hat and apron, shared some secret
recipes for student success based on student data. He shared the overview of who our
students are and the challenges they face everyday, in addition to the student completion
time and rate analysis. Dr. Fierro pointed out the great success some high-touch programs
such as Umoja, Puente, EOPS, and Cerritos Complete are seeing with their participating students,
and stressed the strong need for scaling up these successful programs campus-wide
to benefit all students. View the dashboard for student success data (access required)
Radio host, DJ, actor, TV host, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Mando Fresko (Cerritos
College Alum, 2006) served as the special guest speaker. Mando shared how he found
his passion for entertainment at Cerritos College and the campus radio station WPMD,
and how he learned important life skills such as networking and collaboration from
professors at Cerritos College.
