College and Norwalk Transit Unveil Special Bus Wraps to Promote GoPass

Cerritos College and Norwalk Transit officials and studentsCerritos College and the City of Norwalk’s Transit System (NTS) unveiled the special bus wraps to promote the Metro GoPass initiative on October 12. Sponsored by Norwalk Transit, the special version buses serve routes 1 and 2 through the first week of January 2023.

Cerritos College officially launched its new Metro GoPass program for all students in March 2022 through the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Fareless System Initiative Community College pilot program.

Cerritos College students who pay their Student Activities Fee each semester can now ride and transfer between several transit systems all over L.A. thanks to the Metro GoPass.

At Cerritos College, 70 percent of students qualify for the California College Promise Grant, which waives enrollment fees to attend school. Fifty percent of students receive a federal Pell grant that is awarded to students with exceptional financial needs – indicating they are low-income and in dire financial straits.

“We are eliminating the burden of paying for transportation to provide every student on campus with the basic resources they need to live a full life and ultimately complete their educational goals,” said Cerritos College President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro.

Meeting students’ basic needs remains a top priority at Cerritos College. This year, the campus opened the Falcon’s Nest, a centralized network of resources that support meeting students’ basic needs, including food, clothing, hygiene, and housing, among other services.

The College has also engaged in local and state advocacy efforts to provide access to affordable transportation to low-income residents and students across the region.
