Pharmacy Technology Program Ranks #2 in California

Cerritos College earned another top recognition with its pharmacy technology program ranked second among the best pharmacy technician schools in California by Pharmacy Technician Guide.

Cerritos College Pharmacy Technology Program offers a certificate and an associate of arts degree in pharmacy technology. Accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the pharmacy technology program boasts a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam pass rate of nearly 90 percent among its students–well above the national average of 70 percent pass rate.

Students learn topics including medical calculations, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy operations, pharmacology, introduction to anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. The program utilizes the industry-leading pharmacy software PioneerRx, which allows students to simulate the functions and workflow processes associated in day to day pharmacy operations and enhances their learning experience.

Many of the Cerritos College graduates seek graduate degrees in pharmacy. The program works closely with Chapman University and Marshall B. Ketchum University to help advance its graduates to pursue their doctorates in pharmacy.

“Our goal is to provide cutting-edge education and produce competent students with the knowledge, skills, and values that prepare them for their future careers in Pharmacy.  Our programs produce students that are competitive in the workforce, innovative and creative in their skill sets, and are prepared to become leaders within our industry,” said Dr. Nasiba Makarem, professor, program director, and chair of the pharmacy technology department.

“We are excited to receive this well-deserved recognition,” said President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro. “Our dedicated faculty with expertise in their fields, combined with state-of-the-art learning tools and resources, prepare our students to enter the workforce and become successful in the ever-changing medical environment.”
