Ashley Ramirez selected to participate in NASA virtual experience

Ashley and her teammates on ZoomCerritos College student Ashley Ramirez was selected to participate in the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) Mission 2: Exploration Simulation from April 17 – 24.

Ashley’s successful completion of Mission 1, a five-week online NCAS course, earned her a spot to participate in the online Mission 2: Exploration Simulation. She was among hundreds of community college students nationwide who participated in the virtual experience.

Throughout the virtual experience, Ashley learned about NASA’s missions and careers in science and engineering. Her team designed a mission to explore Mars. The mission also included events hosted by NASA subject matter experts, information on how to apply for NASA internships, and a virtual tour of NASA’s unique facilities. Ashley collaborated with students from various colleges to complete the mission. As a result, the team was selected to move on to Mission 3, an in-person robotics competition in June, where teams will work as a fictitious aerospace company vying for a NASA rover contract.

Ashley graduated from Gahr High School as valedictorian and enrolled at Cerritos College in 2023. The computer science major has a clear vision for her future: to transfer to Stanford University and one day work for NASA.
