Psychology students present at research convention

Psychology students at the conferencePsychology students attended the Western Psychological Association (WPA) Conference in San Francisco in April. Students Abby Samawi, Marco Perez, Madison Seelye, Nimsi Murillo, Freddy Torres, Bea Roxas, Alexa Campos, and Noe Watson presented their novel research at the conference.

The student team presented the relationship between honor society membership and students' engagement, happiness, performance, and loneliness compared to non-honor society students.

“For undergraduate students to attend a professional conference is an incredible opportunity, and for students to present their novel research, it is nothing short of remarkable,” said Psychology Professor Dr. Kimberley Duff. " Students who have attended this conference before have developed skills to help them successfully transfer, work in labs, and continue on to earn graduate degrees in psychology."

"The conference taught me two main things: the importance of sharing findings beyond our local environment and how exploring different places can benefit us as students and individuals,” said Abby Samawi, who served as the lead author for the student team. She will transfer to the University of California Irvine in the fall. Abby hopes to pursue a graduate degree in psychology with a goal to become a professor and psychotherapist.
