Rep. Michelle Steel secures $1 million to boost student veteran employment at Cerritos College
Congresswoman Michelle Steel secured $1 million in congressional funding to expand student veteran employment at Cerritos College. Rep. Steel presented the check to the college on May 10. Unemployment among young veterans is nearly triple the national average, yet student veterans possess an array of unique skills and training as a result of their military service. Studies show that veterans remain with their initial employers 8.3 percent longer and are 39 percent more likely to be promoted than their nonveteran counterparts... Falcon softball: Jazmine Macias named NFCA All-American
Sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American team. Ashley Ramirez selected to participate in NASA virtual experience
Cerritos College student Ashley Ramirez was selected to participate in the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) Mission 2: Exploration Simulation from April 17 – 24. Ashley’s successful completion of Mission 1, a five-week online NCAS course, earned her a spot to participate in the online Mission 2: Exploration Simulation. Psychology students present at research convention
Psychology students attended the Western Psychological Association (WPA) Conference in San Francisco in April. Students Abby Samawi, Marco Perez, Madison Seelye, Nimsi Murillo, Freddy Torres, Bea Roxas, Alexa Campos, and Noe Watson presented their novel research at the conference. The student team presented the relationship between honor society membership and students' engagement, happiness, performance, and loneliness compared to non-honor society students... The SOAR Magazine scores bronze in 2024 CCPRO Awards
The Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) honored the college's Public Affairs Office with the third-place PRO Award in April. The PRO Awards celebrate the innovative and outstanding work done during the past year. The team won third place in the magazine category with the SOAR Magazine. SOAR also won bronze in the annual report category in 2023.
