Dr. Amber Hroch named Outstanding Classified Manager of the Year

Dr. Jose Fierro, Dr. Amber Hroch, James Cody Birkey, and Colleen McKinleyDr. Amber Hroch, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, Planning, and Grants (IERPG) has a passion for improving student success, especially as it relates to equity and guided pathways. Prior to Cerritos College, Dr. Hroch has 13 years of higher education research experience with six years directly in California’s Community College system in institutional effectiveness. 

Dr. Hroch earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She received her master’s in education in post-secondary administration and student affairs from the University of Southern California, and a master’s and Ph.D. in higher education and organizational change from the University of California, Los Angeles. In graduate school, Dr. Hroch's research interests focused on the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). 

During her short time at Cerritos College, Dr. Hroch has opened up access to data in ways we have never experienced before. The dashboards she introduced have provided data in a format that is easy to understand and allows the College to make it actionable. These dashboards are particularly useful for improving efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion. Programs going through instructional program review praise Dr. Hroch’s willingness to help, her insight, and how important the data is to the program improvement process. She listens when needed, helps problem solve, and follows through every time. Dr. Hroch also led shifting unit planning to eLumen, which made it easier for faculty to communicate their needs and write more effective plans. She is truly a transformative leader and her impact has transformed this campus and future student success by providing the ability to analyze data and make data-based decisions.
