Cheryl Thury named Employee of the Month of August 2022
The Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee Selection Committee named Cheryl
Thury as the recipient of the Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee of the
Month Award for August 2022.
Cheryl began her career with Cerritos College in 1984 as an hourly employee in the Academic Affairs office. She was hired full-time in August 1987 as a personnel clerk in Human Resources. Since 1998, Cheryl has worked as administrative assistant in the President’s Office. This is her first employee of the month award.
Cheryl was selected as Employee of the Month for her planning efforts on the Performing Arts Center Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting this summer. This was the largest grand opening event in recent memory, and perhaps in the history of the college. Over 350 people were in attendance including many local elected officials, many community members, and our campus community. Anything can happen when planning an event, and Cheryl handles everything that comes her way with grace and confidence. For instance, when our off-campus caterer canceled at the last moment, Cheryl was quick to initiate a backup plan to ensure the event was a success.
Cheryl is an expert at bringing people together, and she always knows how to make things nice. The PAC grand opening will be hard to top, but I know for a fact that Cheryl is already working on several other major events this fall where she may outdo herself. So, stay tuned for more greatness!
