Pamela Sepulveda named Outstanding Classified Manager of the Year

Pamela Sepulveda and Dr. Jose FierroPamela Sepulveda started at Cerritos College in June 2020, and spent her first year primarily online while also working to establish the Falcon’s Nest – everything from signage, purchases such as refrigerators, shelving and décor, establishing procedures and processes, implementing a social work intern program, and ultimately implementing a basic needs department and service that is recognized as one of the best in the state.  While much groundwork was established by the basic needs task force, it was Pamela’s expertise, work ethic, collaborative spirit, and creativity that brought everything to it’s full potential.

As mentioned by her nominees, Pamela is an incredible colleague to work with, and folks are in awe of her ability to create so much in such a short amount of time.  She has helped remove basic needs barriers for hundreds, if not thousands, of students, and helped placed our college at the forefront of best practices in meeting the needs of students.

On a state-wide level, Pamela is recognized as an expert in the field.  She is regularly requested to provide system-wide presentations on basic needs services and the Falcon’s Nest to the CCC community, and at inter-segmental meetings in California.

A few highlights of Pamela’s accomplishments include:

  • Establishing the Social Work Intern program, hosting 7-10 Masters in Social Work Interns in the Falcon’s Nest each year, who provide direct service to students.
  • Serving as a lead and liaison to Jovenes for our 5 housing programs, with direct support for students in the Prevention Support program.  Pamela also was a lead for the implementation of our “Safe Landing Hotel Voucher Program” that provides immediate relief to students facing an acute housing crisis.
  • Established a financial wellness program, through collaborations with both Financial Aid and the Foundation, to facilitate a Financial Wellness program in partnership with the Downey Federal Credit Union.  This collaboration includes workshops and one-on-one meetings to understand banking, budgeting, financial aid, and understanding credit.
  • Being named a 2023 Woman of Achievement by Senator Bob Archuleta, for contributing to the well-being of our community.

Beyond being hard working, service-focused, and forward thinking, Pamela is also a lot of fun to work with.  She understands the importance of relationships, team building, and workplace fun in balancing difficult work.  She is truly the best. Congratulations, Pamela, and thank you for a job well done!
