Retiree Leonard Glick Recognized

Dr. Jose Fierro, Leonard, and Dr. Nick RealThe Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized retiree Leonard Glick, Professor of Automotive Mechanical Repair, for his many years of service to the College on June 21.

Leonard started teaching automotive technology at Cerritos College in August 2006.  His interest in anything automobile started when he was a kid. After auto shop classes in high school, he attended L.A. Pierce College and enrolled in an automotive program. He transferred to CSULB and continued in an industrial education program while working in an independent auto repair shop in L.A. Leonard started his career teaching automotive technology at three local community colleges for four years with the eventual goal of teaching full-time.

An opportunity became available for him to be a full time Service Training Instructor for the Los Angeles regional office of Nissan North America. He was teaching classes to professional automotive technicians at Nissan's training center in Costa Mesa. Eventually Leonard took another job at Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America as a Field Service Engineer. He was responsible for collecting early incident information on a product line and monitor warranty repairs, parts usage, customer comments, dealer assistance requests and just about everything that was happening with the vehicle from the time it left the factory to the end of its service life. His territory was the entire United States.

Leonard returned to Nissan North America in 2004 and took a job as a Recall and Service Campaign Specialist. In that job he dealt with issues that required vehicles to be repaired or modified under voluntary federal recalls or service campaigns. In 2006, Nissan decided to move its National Headquarters from California to Tennessee. Although he was offered a job there, Leonard decided to try again getting a full-time teaching position and one became available in the Automotive Department at Cerritos College. He applied, interviewed, and was offered the job. Basically, Leonard took a 25-year detour away from his original plan of being an auto shop teacher, but got to his goal later in life. Leonard has said that he has had a lot of jobs within the automotive industry but teaching at Cerritos College is the most important job he has ever had.

Thank you for your service and best wishes in your retirement!
