Student Convocation encourages students to level up the game for success
Cerritos College hosted the 2024-25 Student Convocation on October 16. President/Superintendent
Dr. Jose Fierro addressed the students in attendance, emphasizing the importance of
education as a long-term investment in financial security and employment opportunities.
He highlighted that individuals with higher degrees experience significantly lower
unemployment rates compared to those who only have a high school diploma. Dr. Fierro
also discussed the advantages of balancing work and education, stressing that time
spent studying is an investment in one’s future.
The meeting introduced the college’s Students First Framework, which focuses on four key areas: equitable access, completion, career and transfer success, and institutional health. The discussion also covered the importance of planning, discipline, and organization, with practical examples such as setting goals and maintaining a schedule. The session concluded with a quiz on college-related facts and figures, reinforcing the significance of staying on track and utilizing the campus resources available to students.
