Cerritos College receives $3 million HSI Title V grant to increase Hispanic student success
Cerritos College received a five-year, $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education through its Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) program to implement the new Mentoring, Access, Data, and Equity (MADE) project. The U.S. Department of Education’s DHSI program provides 49 grants totaling more than $28 million to assist Hispanic-Serving Institutions in expanding educational opportunities for Hispanic students... Student Convocation encourages students to level up the game for success
Cerritos College hosted the 2024-25 Student Convocation on October 16. President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro addressed the students in attendance, emphasizing the importance of education as a long-term investment in financial security and employment opportunities. He highlighted that individuals with higher degrees experience significantly lower unemployment rates compared to those who only have a high school diploma... ASL Instructor Edward Kelly recognized with the Patriot Award
On October 17, American Sign Language Instructor Edward Kelly received a surprise visit from student Eddie Trejo and an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) representative Gordon Crane. During this visit, Eddie and Gordon presented Kelly with the Patriot Award. Eddie, who serves in the Army National Guard, nominated Kelly for his support in facilitating Eddie's studies while he was away for annual training... Link to the full story about Ed Kelly

Student Life hosts Civic Engagement Panel
The Student Life team hosted a panel discussion on civic engagement and representation on October 15. Moderated by Political Science Professor Dr. Sunday P. Obazuaye, the panel featured Cerritos College Trustee Marisa Perez, former Cerritos Mayor, former District Chief of Staff for Congressman Alan Lowenthal, and former ABCUSD Board President Mark Pulido, Executive Director of California Contract Cities Association and Former Norwalk Mayor Marcel Rodarte, and Bellflower City Council Member Victor Sanchez. The panelists shared their motivations for entering politics, stressing the need for young people to get involved. The conversation emphasized the importance of community and youth/student engagement and local elected officials' roles.

Anna Fischer named Employee of the Month of September 2024
The Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee Selection Committee named Anna Fischer, instructional lab technician II - foreign languages, student success division, as the recipient of the Outstanding Classified/Confidential Employee of the Month Award for September 2024. Campus Police officers and cadets commended for bravery
During the October 16 board meeting, Campus Police Chief Don Mueller presented special commendations to Cerritos College Police Officers Donte Green and Natassaja Dolgorouky, as well as Cadets Chring Lama and Dominic Foster, for their brave and professional response to an incident involving a man wielding a large machete in Parking Lot 6 on August 24, 2024. Thank you, officers and cadets for protecting our campus safety!
