Nick Real named Manager of the Year

Dr. Elizabeth Riley and Dr Nick RealThe Association for Cerritos College Management Employees (ACCME) has named Instructional Dean of Technology, Nick Real, Ed.D., as the recipient of the 2026 Erin Miles Memorial Academic Manager of the Year Award.

Nick is praised for his student-first philosophy, consistently seeking ways to remove barriers to graduation and transfer. His initiatives have led to measurable improvements in student retention and completion rates within the Technology Division. Some of his nominees noted that he is meticulous in overseeing schedules, budgets, and faculty loads, ensuring the division runs smoothly. He proactively identifies administrative bottlenecks and implements streamlined workflows that allow faculty to focus on teaching and on the areas where they excel.

Nick is deeply committed to his team's professional growth and serves as a mentor. He encourages staff and faculty to take on leadership roles and provides them with the resources they need to succeed. He has fostered a divisional culture rooted in transparency and mutual respect, where employees feel heard and valued for their unique contributions. 

Nick’s leadership extends beyond campus through his work with the community. He has played a pivotal role in strengthening ties with local businesses to ensure the curriculum remains aligned with workforce needs. He also represents the college at community forums and builds networks that provide students with internship and employment opportunities.

Nick Real balances high-level administrative rigor with a genuine concern for the human element of higher education. Whether navigating fiscal challenges or campus-wide reorganizations, his steady hand and clear communication have provided the institution with stability and vision.
