Retiree Nick Real recognized

Nick Real and Frank MixsonThe Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized retiree Instructional Dean of Technology, Nick Real, Ed.D., for his many years of service to the college on May 20.

Dr. Nick Real joined Cerritos College in August 2000 as a full-time machine tool technology instructor. From the outset, his focus has been on students, ensuring they gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities necessary for success in the workforce and in life.

Since becoming Dean of Technology in 2012, Nick has established himself as one of the most respected leaders in career technical education (CTE), both on our campus and within the broader CTE community. He is known for his tireless work ethic, willingness to help others, and ability to build strong partnerships that benefit students. This includes collaborating with faculty on curriculum development, supporting staff, mentoring students, and working with local school districts through initiatives like the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (AMET) Linked Learning Consortium.

Nick approaches his work with dedication, humility, and a sense of purpose. A clear example of his leadership emerged during the pandemic when he ensured that students in hands-on CTE programs could continue learning in person whenever possible. He also found innovative ways to provide technical instruction online amidst significant uncertainty, remaining focused on what mattered most: student success.

What makes Nick truly remarkable is that faculty members from all disciplines have long relied on him as a trusted resource. Generations of students have benefited from his knowledge, mentorship, and steady leadership.

Nick, your commitment to Cerritos College, to CTE education, and to the people around you has made a lasting impact. On behalf of the college, thank you for your years of service, your leadership, and the example you have set for all of us.
