ASTR 102

Student Learning Outcome - A student completing Astronomy 102 will be able to demonstrate a non-mathematical understanding of

  1. The scientific method,
  2. Ancient Greek and Renaissance astronomy,
  3. Repetitive sky motions, including lunar phases,
  4. Nuclear fusion and its role in the changing nature of stars,
  5. The magnetic and sunspot cycles of the Sun,
  6. The structure and evolution of galaxies, and
  7. Our current understanding of cosmology, including the Big Bang and the cosmic background
    radiation. 

Prerequisites: There is no prerequisite for this course.

Textbook: Universe, 11th Edition, by Freedman, Geller, and Kaufmann. Most importantly, you will need an access code to get to the Sapling Learning portion of the course. The text is available as an e-book once you have activated your access code.
