Students Learn 3D Technology through Mini-me Project
Cerritos College New Products Development students learned how to use state-of-the
art 3D scanning and printing technology through the fun “Mini-me” project. Students
performed a 3D scan of each other’s face and head and applied the images to produce
a “mini-me” using a 3D printer. At the end, the students created a manufacturing
plan of their newly designed toy. This multidisciplinary project exposed students
in engineering design, manufacturing and industrial art.
“Through this project, the students learned many aspects of modern 3D printing technology, including capturing reality, reverse engineering, direct object modelling, hybrid modeling, and 3D printing – the skills used in today’s 3D printing industry,” said Instructor Miodrag “Mickey” Micic, Sc.D., Ph.D., M.T.M., CSWP, chair of Engineering Design Technology.
